Palm Treo

Established in 1991, Palm Computing is the original inventor of the Palm Pilot. It was one of the first PDA's for consumers but did not take off commercially right away. It was eventually acquired by 3Com in 1997 but the founders of Palm left shortly after to start their own company Handspring.

Eventually in January 2002, 3Com spun off Palm into a wholly-owned subsidiary in order to create and manufacturer Palm OS. That product became PalmSource the following month. PalmSource was then made an independent company.

The following year, the hardware division merged with Handspring and was renamed palmOne Inc. Soon after it reverted back to the name Palm Inc.

So after years of spin-offs and mergers, Palm released its Palm Treo 700w, the first Windows Mobile-powered Treo. It was developed in with Verizon and Microsoft.

The Treo is a product line of smartphones that contains a number of features such as calendar look-up while talking on your cell, dial direct from a your contact list and send e-mails. Newer models now contain a camera and allow for game playing. Bill Gates uses a Treo700w.

Treo 600 is also known as palmOne Treo 600. For its time, the GSM version was one of the first quad-band phones available in North America.

Palm smartphones can be used with GSM and CDMA networks, giving users a choice of cell phone operators around the world. By integrating organizers, calendars, messaging, web access and games, the phone is being utilized by business professionals and mobile gamers. For the Treo700w, there are now hundreds of mobile games which run smoothly on the smartphone.
